Five Easy Steps To Create Your Own Internet Video Show (For Next To Nothing!)

Hello everyone,

Would you like to have your own Internet video show? Sounds expensive right? Today I’ll show you how to do it in five easy steps that will cost you next to nothing!

1) Create Your Own YouTube Channel: This is where everyone will watch your shows and hopefully subscribe to your channel. YouTube provides all of the bandwidth so it’s free – if you put video on your own website you will have to pay for the bandwidth.

2) Buy A Tripod And An Inexpensive Camcorder: The tripod will free you up and keep the video from being shaky. The camcorder should have an external microphone jack so that your audio is good.

3) Do Your Show And Record Yourself: Have fun and give great, valuable content to your viewers/listeners. Make sure that the audio and video quality are good. The video doesn’t have to be the best of the best but the audio should be very clear.

4) Edit Your Video: There are many great video editing programs out there. Some are very expensive and some are free. A good free one that I like is VideoPad Video Editor, but there are many to choose from.

5) Upload Your Edited Video To Your YouTube Channel: Fill out your video information including title, description, and tags. Tags are key words used to describe your video. These tags will help people search and locate your videos on YouTube.

That’s it! Your done! Keep producing great content and you will soon have a loyal following on your own YouTube channel!!

Professor Randy says: If you’ve got something valuable to show, say, or teach, then by all means share it with the world on your own YouTube channel. And by all means, do it for next to nothing!!

Device Drivers And Correct Order Of Installation

Hello everyone,

A driver is a software program that runs (drives) a hardware device. There are many hardware devices both inside and outside of a computer and these devices cannot run unless they are “driven” by a device driver. Here are some examples of  computer hardware devices that will not function without the software that “drives” them.

  • printers
  • video adapters
  • network cards
  • sound cards
  • mice, keyboards, USB drives
  • computer storage devices such as hard disk, CD-ROM
  • image scanners
  • digital cameras

Most people know that when you install/reinstall an Operating System you must also install/reinstall the most recent, updated drivers for all of your hardware. But do you know that you must also install those drivers in the correct order for optimum system performance?

Today I would like to show you the correct order of device driver installation. This driver installation order refers to machines running the Windows Operating System.

Install/Reinstall your device drivers in this order:

1) Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS). The DSS and NSS software is not required for Windows Vista/Windows 7 systems.

2) Chipset

3) Video Adapter

4) Network Interface Card (NIC)

5) Audio Adapter

6) Dialup Modem

7) Wireless Network Card

8) Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards

9) Bluetooth Module, Wireless Mobile Broadband Cards, PCMCIA/Smartcard Controller

Professor Randy says: The best hardware device in the world will not run without it’s proper device driver. Install the correct drivers and install them in the correct order for optimum system efficiency!

Two Monitors Are Better Than One

Hello everyone,

There is nothing like adding a second monitor to your computer setup. The increased viewing area allows you to     multitask applications, extend the display across both screens, duplicate the image on both screens, and more.

Setting up a two monitor system is not difficult. All you need are the two monitors, a graphics card that has two monitor ports or two graphics cards inside of your computer system.

A client just asked me to do this for him a couple of days ago and in this post I’m going to tell you the exact steps that I took in order to accomplish the task:

1) Choose a video card and install it. I chose this PCI 2 Port VGA Card (inexpensive, somewhat older, but great!).

2) Connect both monitors to the newly installed card.

3) Go into your computers BIOS and deselect the onboard video card. Look for something like “Integrated Devices”, deselect the onboard video card and select the new video card (select “auto” or “PCI device”).

4) Log into your computer and install the drivers for the new video card. Go to the manufacturer of the video card and get the latest drivers. Don’t use the CD that came with the card (those drivers may not be the latest ones).

5) Access your computers “Device Manager” (Start>Control Panel>System>System Properties>Hardware>Device Manager) and disable the onboard video card drivers (right click and disable).

6) Go into your “Display Properties” Settings. You should now see the representation of your two monitors.

7) Select the inactive monitor, check the “Extend” box and hit Apply.

8) Adjust the screen resolution for each monitor and check the “Identify” box to see which monitor is #1 & #2.

9) You can now drag any open window between screens (but not if the screen is maximized).

10) You are done! Cool huh? Enjoy your increased screen “real estate” and increased productivity!

Professor Randy says: Once you experience the viewing pleasure and increased productivity of two monitors your computing will never be the same! Enjoy a two monitor setup by following the simple steps in the above post!

Google’s Android OS Will Soon Be The Smartphone King!

Hello everyone,

Back in January of this year I had this to say about Google’s Android Operating System. Since I’m not one to say “I told you so”, I’ll let Mike Swift in his article from Mercury News tell you so!

Here are a few key excerpts from Mike’s informative article:

“By the end of this year, Google’s Android smartphone operating system will in a single year have leapfrogged competitors such as Apple’s iPhone, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows phones in global popularity, and will challenge Nokia to become the world’s most popular mobile OS by 2014, research firm Gartner said Friday.”

How is this turn around possible? The Apple iPhone is the smartphone king right? How will it not continue to be the global market leader? More from Mike’s article:

“It’s a matter of Android really going more into the hands of the mainstream user,” Roberta Cozza, principal research analyst at Gartner, said in a telephone interview from London. “The iPhone will remain focused toward the higher end of the market, while through the end of this year and into 2011, all that growth you see in Android will come from the fact that most of the vendors who are backing it will release cheaper smartphones.”

One of the disadvantages of the Google Android OS in the past was the scarcity of apps from software developers. But that is changing fast as we read in the Swift article:

“There is little doubt that Android’s rapid growth and its popularity with software developers who build smartphone apps contributed to Apple’s uncharacteristic decision this week to loosen its grip on control over software development for iPhone and iPad. Google said there are now more than 80,000 apps available to download in the Android Market, still much less than the Apple App Store, but more than double the number available this spring.”

Professor Randy says: When considering your next smartphone don’t forget about the Android Operating Systemit is a great OS, cell phone manufactures love it, and phones using it will cost much less!

Important SEO Issues That You Should Know

Hello everyone,

If you have a website and you are enthusiastic about your particular interest/topic/craft, then you will naturally want other people to “see your stuff”. Some people set up a website (blog) just to sell things which I believe is actually “putting the cart before the horse”.

Why not try to help and educate people instead of trying to sell them things? Once your readers/viewers come to like your site and the things that you have to say, they will begin to trust you and eventually feel more inclined to possibly contribute in other ways (whatever those ways may be).

I think that every website owner should know some basics about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I have written two previous posts about SEO here (#1) and here (#2). Today I would like to give you a great video interview with Google SEO expert Maile Ohye. Maile covers some great but basic issues that all website owners should find very valuable and quite interesting.

SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday – Interview with Google’s Maile Ohye from Scott Willoughby on Vimeo.

Professor Randy says: By knowing the basics of Search Engine Optimization you will be able to help and educate many more people with your valuable information!
